How The Moonlight Memo is researched, written, checked, and corrected — and how to tell us when we get something wrong.
Who is responsible
The Moonlight Memo is published by EpicSolos, which is responsible for what appears here. Every issue is reviewed before it is sent and published.
We are a small independent publisher, not a wire service. That means we choose a narrow number of subjects and try to do each one properly, rather than covering everything.
How we use AI
We use AI tools to help research and draft each issue. We think readers deserve to know that plainly rather than find it out.
AI does not publish here unsupervised. Drafts are reviewed and edited before release, subjects are checked against everything we have already covered so we do not run the same story twice, and each article is written to add context and explanation rather than restate a fact you could find in a search result.
Where a draft cannot be supported, it does not run. Responsibility for every published issue rests with the publisher, not with a tool.
Sourcing
Articles link to their sources so you can check them yourself. We prefer primary and institutional sources — museums, universities, government bodies, established reference works and reputable publications — over aggregators and user-generated content.
Source links are verified to resolve before an article is published. A link we cannot verify is removed rather than published on trust.
Accuracy and corrections
We try hard to be accurate, and we will sometimes be wrong. When we are, we want to fix it quickly and visibly rather than quietly.
If you spot an error, email phil@philspringer.us. Tell us which issue and what is wrong, and we will check it. Where something material is incorrect, we correct the article and note that it was corrected. Where it is a small slip, we simply fix it.
Advertising and independence
The Moonlight Memo is free to read and is funded by advertising and by sponsored placements. Anything paid for is labelled as sponsored where it appears.
Advertisers have no say in what we cover or what we say about it. Sponsorship never buys editorial coverage, and no advertiser sees an issue before it is published.
